How to determine the window size?

Window price is determined by window’s Area in square feet (sqft).

For preliminary quote, the size does not need to be accurate. So 1-1.5 inches or even 2 inches off makes no or little difference.

Some rough opening might be really wide or tall and you have to divide it into multiple windows. You will have to divide up the width or height and quote each window piece separately.

Since most clients will apply for $325/window rebate, as a rule of thumb:

  1. casement window should normally be less than 32×72. i.e if your rough opening width is 72 and height is 50, you need to divide it up into either 3 equal pieces (24×50+24×50+24×50 High Fixed+Casement+High Fixed combination or Casement+High Fixed+Casement combination) or 2 non-equal pieces (24×50 Casement+48×50 High Fixed)
  2. awning window should normally be less than 48×72.
  3. You can always design a window opening to be non-operable at all and High Fixed window can go as big as 96×96.
  4. You need to always combine casement or awning window with a High Fixed window.

This diagram shows you how to roughly measure the window width and height in inches. This is important step and only step you need to do before running our online quote as long as you have determined what window style you want.
